The liver transplantations program in Taiwan has performed a total of 315 liver transplantations since March 1984 up until August 2005; of these, 228 were living donors. All donors have returned to their previous healthy lifestyle while recipient has 1-year survival rate of 97.3%, and a 5-year survival rate of 93.4%, one of the highest survivals in the world.
During my early research on hepatoblastoma, I have read that a kid with the hepatoblastoma might require a liver transplant. I just hoped and prayed this possibility wouldn't come to fruition. But here it is. After 3 months of chemotherapies, the CT revealed the tumor lying at the middle Jasem's liver. According to the surgeon who studied the CT, It's unresectable... liver transplant is the best option. We're still waiting for Dr. Hung's words on this current situation. It's up to her whether Jasem will need more chemotherapy or will require transplant immediately.
The first time my baby's diagnosis came out, I went through something like a grieving process. But I knew I had to get through it to be able to take care of him. My research on my baby's case from the start prepared me for this breaking news. My husband neglected to believe me when I told him before that our son might need a new liver and between the
two us, he's the possible donor bcos he's the same blood type as Jasem (type O).
Enough for this news until we hear Dr. Hung's opinion ang decision.
Jasem did great during his 5th chemo session (20 hours of Cisplatin). A real hyper boy, he keeps singing and dancing with the Wiggles. You really can't tell there's something wrong with him if i'm not writing all these stuffs about him.
Thank you for your continued prayers. Please keep him in your hearts and prayers always. God Bless!
