Evaluation of the 5/15's CT scan

As promised yesterday, here I am for the result of the CT scan. Ok, where should I start.... first, I didn't go to hear the evaluation myself. Hubby chose not to bring me bcos he's kinda scared of whatever bad news Dr. Lai might say. So I stayed with Jasem and Daisy at home and waited until he's back. So, for the news, here it goes... the ct scan reveals the tumors on both lobes of his liver (yes, there are two monsters in there, but they're dead). Fortunately, neither of the two touches the touches the hepatic portal vein (a blood vessel which drains venous blood into the liver from the entire gastrointestinal tract. It supplies the remaining 80% of the liver's blood.) So, it is resectable but still risky. Although transplant remains an option, Dr. Lai suggested not to go for it bcos of the difficulty of finding a donor here in Taiwan and we're not as advanced (like in US and Europe) when it comes to liver transplanting. Sad, huh? With the stable dropping of Jasem's afp, Dr. Lai remarked

that chemotherapy did a great job, and it is gratifying that Jasem responded to it pretty well. Since it's still dangerous doing the surgery, Dr. Lai suggested that we go back to Dr. Hung for additional chemo that might increase the possibility of a successful resection. So that defines our conslusion.

I've mentioned on my previous journals that there are a lot of ups and downs in this journey of ours... I can say that this is an "up" one. I've consulted the I Ching(yeah, I'm practicing it) a month ago... it says: Transplant, big NO; Resection, wait for the right time; Full Recovery from hepatoblastoma: yes; There's more but I don't intend to drive anyone crazy here, I just want to let you think positive. So, chemo continues on May 29th... oh dear! Jasem will be turning 2 at the hospital on the 30th.
